Great pod but too Anglocentrc on foreign affairs. What would the EU make of a second Trump presidency? How would this affect UK EU relations? I’d guess many of your listeners are only begrudgingly interested in US politics.
I’ve listened to this pod off and on since it started in the run-up to the 2024 UK election. Then I found it really stimulating and insightful. I’ve always liked Steve Richards and I thought Tim Montgomery’s contribution was fresh and thought-provoking. Now, I feel it’s lost something of that initial energy. Too often, one of the contributors (especially Steve) is missing. Tim Montgomery joined Reform UK soon after the pod started and that dented my trust in his political judgement especially when, around the US election, he insisted that Trump was going to be a good thing. I know he later partly retracted that, but the pod seems to have largely avoided serious discussion of the way Trump has been systematically turning the US into a neo-fascist police state since taking office. Is that to spare Tim’s blushes? Iain Martin is always interesting but I find his hesitant speech, continually repeating phrases, hard to listen to. The aims of this podcast, to disagree agreeably, are laudable, but it needs some re-thinking.
